TROPICAL HOUSE

Living in a big, busy city should not prevent you from having a sense of nature in your home with the feel of a tropical retreat. Pete Bossely Architect offered some ideas for designing a Tropical House by using creative decoration and smart design element.

1. Fistly, you can ignite or at least stimulate tropical forest mood by using natural materials such as bamboo or wood for the floor, the panels of the walls, the furniture, and the ceiling.

2. Tropical forest paintings on the wall is such a good idea. If this is something that you can’t do yourself due to lack of skills, hire a pro to do the paintings. The other alternative, if you’re not a painter, is to paint the wall plain white and decorate it with pictures of tropical plants, animals, and/or river.

3. Whenever possible, it’s always great to put real small tropical plants inside the room. You should favor small trees, ivy, potted plants, etc. and pay close attention to the lighting and placement. To make it perfect, add a cascading fountain relatively close to the plants and feel the atmosphere of a tropical jungle complete with the sound of flowing water.

LOUVER HOUSE

Designed by Wallflower Architecture, this original architecture project is located in Singapore, on the East coast area and it is neighbored by four other urban buildings. The unusual design was chosen as a result of the owner’s “brief”: he wanted a house that could be as open as possible and yet not interfere with the notion of safety. He wanted a home that was beautiful, spacious and also protected. This is how this residence was created, as an “enclosed open space”, with even the outdoor elements (pool, garden) fenced and regarded as internal. The creative design does not just have an aesthetic function, but it also keeps the house cool due to the breezes that form between the courtyards. Not only that, by using louver decoration ornament, the architect could reach a unique shading interior. Read more
