Photography Gallery : Lighting Factor Emphesizing, By MBS Architect

At the beginning, The project was designed as an answer of photography exibition need in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. But, by the process, the architect added much more function to accomodate all photography activity needs to the building, such as museum, trainning, outdoor-indoor studio, camera shop, beside the main purpose. Lighting factor was chosen, because of the gallery site on tropical climate zone (7?37′ S /110?01′ E) and as the main factor of photography creating process. The architect would prefer to maximize the bright of the sun as a natural light then artificial light during daylight. While at night, the architect would combine a type of light, pattern of light and as well as colour of light. So that, both lighting factor and photography were the main core of designing this photography gallery. Not only effected at the orientation building, the landscape of site, layout, materials but also facade. Orientation Building and layout was created according to the yearly cycle of the Sun. Materials which was chosen, planned to absorb as much as sun light into the building, such as sun louver, wide glass windows or polycarbonat. Although the contour was aslant, Landscape of the building was designed to support the building orientation very well. Building Fasade was designed with minimalist-deconstruction style, such as the form and the using of Glassfibre Reinforced Cement (GRC) cladding material, in order to unite with dynamic of photography gallery activity.
